With 30 years of microsurgical experience, Dr. Loewenthal is one of the most respected and experienced ophthalmologists in the area and is a recognized leader in advanced surgical eye techniques. He is one of only a small, select group of surgeons in the state to be certified in cataract surgery by the American Board of Eye Surgery (ABES).

Specializing in eyelid, brow and cheek lifts, as well as skin rejuvenation, Dr. Berkowitz has been a member of VIM's highly skilled and experienced team for nearly 10 years. He uses advanced techniques when possible for faster healing and less scarring. Additionally, he is one of only 18 doctors in Michigan recognized for his specialized skills by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons.
With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Hook is a well-known & respected ophthalmologist. He is a leader in the management of diabetic eye disease and the use of various lasers for disease treatment. He is a member of numerous state and local organizations and has published articles in scientific journals on ophthalmic research and topics.


Dr. Finlay has been with VIM since 1994. She received her Optometric Degree at Ferris State University and specializes in pre- and post-operative care for cataract and refractive surgery patients. Additionally, Dr. Finlay offers complete eye examinations and contact lens fittings. She has many years experience fitting difficult prescriptions successfully.

Director of Refractive Surgery
Dr. Novetsky, who specializes in vision correcting surgery, has been a part of the VIM team since 1983. He has performed thousands of microsurgical procedures and is a member of the American College of Eye Surgeons. Additionally, Dr. Novetsky is certified in cataract surgery by the American Board of Eye Surgery (ABES).



In 2001, Dr. Valice began caring for patients at VIM needing the services of a retinal specialist. Dr. Valice completed his residency training at Wayne State University's Kresge Eye Institute. Additionally, he completed a fellowship in vitreo-retinal surgery at Southern Illinois University in Springfield. Dr. Valice is on staff at both St. John's and St. Joseph's Hospital.
